Before Your Tattoo

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds within 1 month of your appointment

  • Avoid spray tanning 1 week prior to your appointment

  • Do not come to your appointment with a sunburn on your face

  • Avoid all hair removal procedures (waxing, threading, tweezing) at least 72 hours before your brow appointment. Your appointment includes cleaning up any out of place hairs if needed

  • Do not come to your appointment wearing makeup on the areas that are going to be tattooed. For lips no lip tint, lipstick, lip liner, or plumping gloss. For brows, no brow tint, pomade, brow pencils, or anything to enhance their natural state. For eyeliner enhancement, no mascara, eyeshadow, or eyeliners

What should I do before my appointment?

  • Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, and microdermabrasion, for at least 1 month prior to your appointment

  • Discontinue the use of retinol 2 weeks before your appointment

  • If you get Botox regularly, have it done at least 14 days before your appointment

—In order to avoid excess bleeding and poor color deposit:

  • Do not drink alcohol the night before your appointment

  • Do not drink coffee or energy drinks before your appointment

  • Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)

  • Avoid exercise and sweating for at least a week. Sweat is full of minerals like salt that eat at the pigment. Ultimately causing patchy or light brows due to pigment loss.

  • Avoid getting the tattooed area wet outside of instructed cleansing in pools, sauna, jacuzzi, oceans/lakes, etc

  • Avoid Retinols, AHA, BHA, lactic acid, benzoyl peroxide and oils on the forehead

  • Do not expose the tattooed area to excessive moisture or humidity (swimming, hot tubs, saunas, or super hot & steamy showers/baths). Keep the tattooed area dry as best you can while bathing/showering. Do NOT place your face directly under shower head. Pat area dry as soon as its gotten wet

  • No makeup products or other skincare products should be applied directly on the brows, lips, and/or lash line until they are completely done healing.

CLEANSING INSTRUCTIONS (for brows only)

Begin cleansing the brow as soon as you get home from your appointment to remove any excess fluids. You should cleanse the area 3-4 times a day (morning, afternoon, and night). Once the area begins to flake, (usually around day 4) you can switch to only 2 times a day (morning & night). Using lukewarm water and a recommended cleanser below, gently wash in small circles. Then dry with a cotton pad, or soft cloth. Apply a thin layer of ointment to the brows after each cleansing session.

RECOMMENDED CLEANSERS

Cetaphil and Cerave are the best to use. Avoid using any exfoliating or acne cleansers, since these contain acid and can affect pigment retention. Avoid cleansers with any sort of fragrance. This can be irritating to a freshly tattooed brow.

WHAT TO AVOID FOR 7-10 DAYS

  • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning bed

Tattoo Aftercare

  • DO NOT PICK at flaking or possible scabbing, this will cause pigment loss

Day 1: The tattooed area might still be slightly swollen and red. Your brows/lips will appear dark… don’t be scared they will lighten

Day 2 & 3: Some itchiness might set in as the skin begins to heal. Avoid scratching or picking at the area to prevent scabbing. You might start to notice the formation of small scabs or flakes on the tattooed area

Day 4-9: Color may flake off and appear softer and less visible but will slowly reappear over the next few weeks. The tattooed area might look uneven or patchy as the scabs are still shedding and the pigment is still settling into the skin

Day 10-30: After the flaking/scabbing phase is over, you will notice that the color of your pigment seems foggy and almost non-existent. This is normal and a part of the healing process. The color has settled into its true shade and its final product will appear by day 30

Remember that everyone’s healing process is unique, so variations in scabbing, color changes, and other factors can occur.

This is all normal and why a touch up appointment is almost always necessary. Be patient and know that this expected during the healing process, and the final product is so worth it!

Healing Process

Glycolic acid, Retinol, face peels and exfoliants must be kept away from the tattooed area. Continued use could lighten the pigment and using these products can make your brows fade faster or cause discoloration of the pigment

Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you should apply sunscreen on the tattooed area when in the sun for long periods of time
